Someone recently told me that in areas where Psilocybe grow in pastures that
a sort of perimeter area is "treated" to prevent the mushrooms' growth, to
throw off thrill seekers. If I understood what he was saying, the cow feed
is treated(?) Has anyone heard of this before, or was he just pulling my
leg.

I suppose a fungicide might be used, but I think "pulling your leg"
probably best applies, since you need filamentous fungi in yer lawn or
pasture for its best health (worms, too).

I should make it clear that I am talking of P. cubensis, and the pastures I
refer to are strictly of the "cow" variety.

Do Fungicides In Animal Feed Stop Mushroom Growth??
I can tell you I lived out in the middle of a large cow pasture for 15
years
studying pasture type mushrooms. I used the said fungicide feed. By the
time the feed goes through all the stomachs in a cow, the fungicide no
longer exists. It is metabolized. I know this for fact because I never
saw any change in mushroom production out in the fields. And yes, I
have picked so many, didn't have any more room for more.....thousands
were left out in the fields. But over the past 2 decades, many of my
prime
hunting grounds no longer exist. The owners pass on, and their children
sell the farm......"and they put up a parking lot"....grin. I have been
trying to correct this false idea about fungicides stopping mushroom
growing for years.......the urban legend still continues. Believe me, I
would never buy treated range pellets for my cows if it stopped
mushroom growth! There was never any change! slp/fmrc...........Taken
from #13 TEO August 2005.
